The death toll is currently confirmed at 150,000 (the haitian president just said a moment ago it is up to 170,000) and many thousands are still missing. There is an estimated 250,000 people injured and 1.5 million left homeless. The areas affected by the quake continue to experience severe aftershocks with over 50 recorded to date.

Canadian Government to Provide 1:1 Match On Donations

To date ERDO has received over $200,000 from our PAOC churches and many individual donors. Every dollar donated to ERDO by February 12, 2010 for Haiti Earthquake victims will qualify for the matching dollars announced by the Canadian government. Ongoing generous support is needed to help meet the staggering needs for humanitarian aid and for recovery and reconstruction activities.

ERDO’s Ongoing Response

• The medical response team of 20 doctors and nurses has now left Port au Prince.

• Nurses from local churches are providing care through a clinic near our PAOC Ministry Centre.

• Weekly delivery of supplies is being arranged through Agape an aviation ministry out of the US.

• ERDO, through our partnership with CCA (Canadian Churches in Action) is providing water, sanitation and shelter for 30,000 people who have fled to outlying areas and are living in tent cities.

• ERDO will be involved in a major Food Aid and “Agricultural Program” through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank to alleviate current hunger needs and address future food needs.

• PAOC Missionaries Michel and Louise Charbonneau are meeting with local community committees about plans to repair and rebuild

• ERDO staff members David Adcock and Mark Crocker are travelling to Haiti in a few days to connect with partners and assess further ways ERDO can assist those in need.
